A One-of-a-Kind Coloring Experience Born from Conversations with AI
"AI Coloring" is a new educational app where children simply choose or type simple keywords to generate a one-of-a-kind coloring page reflecting their words. Free ideas like "a cat exploring space" or "a unicorn running on a rainbow" are transformed into beautiful line art illustrations suited to the target age and cultural background.
A New UI Design: Choose "What (Noun)" + "Doing What (Verb)"
So that even young children who find typing difficult can enjoy the app, we created an innovative UI where input is completed by choosing "what (noun)" + "doing what (verb)." This is a new kind of language interface.
Icons That Make Any Word "Understandable"
To help children visually understand the keywords they enter, each keyword is displayed alongside a pictogram-style icon. Keywords can be chosen from presets or freely typed. When a keyword is entered, the AI understands its meaning and displays a friendly icon. This allows children as young as about 3 years old to intuitively enjoy creating coloring pages.
Commitment to Safety
As a service for children, safety is our top priority. Before image generation begins, the AI checks entered keywords for inappropriate language, filtering or rephrasing as needed. The underlying image generation AI also leverages advanced content filtering to prevent generation of inappropriate images or images that could infringe on intellectual property rights.
Endless Ways to Play: Print, Collect, Discover
Generated coloring pages can be easily printed and colored freely on paper. They can also be enjoyed as a collection without printing. The "Discover" tab features daily editor picks of recommended coloring pages that can be found and printed.
Development Background: Bringing the "Playing with AI" Experience to All Children
We saw the spread of image generation AI as the perfect opportunity to transform children's coloring from a passive activity into active creative expression. We believed that "coloring" — a safe and familiar activity — was the ideal first step for young children to interact with AI, and began developing "AI Coloring." During exhibition events held during development (Mitou Conference 2024, 2025), we witnessed children's eyes light up with the joy of seeing their ideas come to life. Some children focused on coloring for over 40 minutes, confirming the power of AI to stimulate creativity. We want to bring this foundational experience to as many children as possible.
Accepted into Microsoft for Startups Founders Hub
This app has been accepted (Level 3: Grow) into Microsoft's "Microsoft for Startups Founders Hub" program, which operates in over 140 countries. Through this program's support — including Microsoft Azure credits, dedicated AI training, and expert support — we achieved high-quality product development.
